Donald Trump is having a major breakdown now that his Russia investigation is coming to a head. More desperate than he’s ever been before, Trump is now pretending that he never defended Russia and hoping that no one knows how to use the internet to look up his Twitter history or his previous statements in which he passionately maintained that Russia was innocent.
Earlier this morning, Trump tried to claim that he never said Russia didn’t meddle in the 2016 presidential election. He tweeted:
“I never said Russia did not meddle in the election, I said ‘it may be Russia, or China or another country or group, or it may be a 400 pound genius sitting in bed and playing with his computer.’ The Russian ‘hoax’ was that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia – it never did!”
Trump is clearly freaking out because 13 Russian nationals and three Russian groups have just been charged for attempts to interfere in the election, with the goal of supporting Trump and smearing his opponent, Hillary Clinton.
Trump actually believes that America (and the world) has forgotten that for a large part of his presidency, Trump defended Russian President Vladimir Putin and trashed U.S. intelligence agencies, fighting for Russia’s innocence. For example, last year Trump publicly stated that he believed Putin when the Russian leader denied meddling in the 2016 election. Speaking against the consensus of America’s entire intelligence community, Trump said:
“Every time he sees me he says, ‘I didn’t do that,’ and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it. I think he’s very insulted by it.”
That wasn’t too long ago – Trump said that in NOVEMBER. And let’s not forget that right after the election, Trump told Time magazine:
“I don’t believe they interfered. That became a laughing point, not a talking point, a laughing point. Any time I do something, they say ‘oh, Russia interfered.’”
And as usual, one only has to look up Trump’s old tweets to know that he’s lying. Here are several of his older tweets, in which he blatantly posted in favor of defending Russia:
Either Trump is losing his marbles, or he thinks America is stupid enough to believe him. At this point, it’s probably both — but luckily people are putting Trump on blast and calling him out.
