    Crime, Donald Trump, News, Women

During a press conference at the White House, President Donald Trump decided to defend his (now former) senior aide Rob Porter, who has been accused of beating his ex-wives. The president made it clear that he was most interested in positioning Porter as an upstanding man and his past wives as liars — and this isn’t the first time he has blamed the victims of abuse.

In the press conference, President Trump said that he wished Porter well, and that he was a diligent worker. Instead of extending sympathy to the ex-wives, Trump extended it to Porter, saying that he was going through a “tough time.”

“Now he also, as you probably know, he says he’s innocent. And I think you have to remember that. He said very strongly yesterday that he’s innocent. So you’ll have to talk to him about that. But we absolutely wish him well,” the president said.

What Is the Rob Porter Scandal?

The White House is backing Rob Porter, who has abused both of his ex-wives, one of whom provided photos of a black eye that he gave her. The drama is multifaceted: Porter wasn’t able to obtain full security clearance, and Porter’s exit from the White House is a damaging blow to the Republican Party since he was deemed an “indispensable” strategist with a broad range of responsibilities. Porter will now need to be replaced. White House staffers are also appalled that White House Chief of Staff John Kelly called Porter a “man of true integrity and honor,” right before photos emerged. It’s a situation of who knew what, and when.

Trump Is Making the Scandal Even Worse

Trump is making it clear that he wasn’t interested in firing Porter or defending the victims of abuse. Coupled with no official statement that condemns domestic violence, many people think that the White House knew of Porter’s crimes against women. It’s not hard to believe that, as you listen to Trump say what a hard time Porter must be having right now, and not a word about his victims. The White House not only employed him but also promoted him during his tenure.

It’s almost like Porter’s FBI background check wasn’t completed before he obtained his position at the White House – oh wait, that’s also a thing.

This administration is a hot mess.
