    Donald Trump, News, Politics

A 1999 Larry King interview in which Trump predicted that Oprah Winfrey may one day be in the White House may come true. In an interview with the legendary TV interviewer, Trump revealed that he had aspirations to run for president. King asked, “Do you have a vice presidential candidate in mind?” Trump responded: “Well, I really haven’t gotten quite there yet. Oprah, I love Oprah. Oprah would always be my first choice. Oprah, your competitor, right?  She’s really a great woman, though, she is a terrific woman. She’s somebody that’s very special. I think, if she’d do it, she’d be fantastic. She’s popular, she’s brilliant, she’s a wonderful woman.”

In April 2012, he tweeted, “Oprah will end up doing just fine with her network–she knows how to win.”

    Later in October, he added:

The president has been not such a silent supporter of the business magnate. He has mentioned her several times in interviews over the years, and always in glowing terms. The unlikely idea that Trump is an Oprah supporter is likely to come as a surprise to many due to his links to the alt-right and past brushes with misogyny.

The two have a history with talk of presidential aspirations, in a 1988 interview, Winfrey interviewed Trump and posed the same question. “People have talked to you about whether or not you want to run. Would you ever?” Winfrey asked in 1988.

Well, he may not be quite so enamored with the talk show host and business magnate if, as seems increasingly likely, she runs for president in 2020. Winfrey’s powerful Golden Globes speech had a large portion of the country wanting: “Oprah 2020.”

Whether Winfrey runs for office or not, it shows that she has pulling power. Winfrey is among several celebrities that have been regarded as having a good chance of running in 2020 in what already seems to be a strange sort of reality show where the most popular celebrity somehow becomes the world’s most powerful politician. If you thought 2016 was weird, you may have seen nothing yet.
