On Tuesday, Donald Trump accused Democrats of “doing nothing” to protect the hundreds of thousands of young Hispanic immigrants that he’s put in danger since taking office.
In September, Trump decided to end President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, attaching a six-month delay aimed at provoking congressional involvement. Should lawmakers fail to solve the problem by March 5, hundreds of thousands of young people will lose their DACA protections and be subject to deportation.
On Wednesday, a bipartisan assembly of congressional leaders plan to sit with Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney and White House legislative affairs director Marc Short to talk about DACA and the upcoming Jan. 19 budget deadline to prevent a government shutdown. So far Republicans are holding DACA as well as other immigrant protections hostage in exchange for increased funding for border security.
But while Democrats have expressed a willingness to make such a deal, Trump decided to urinate in the pool by insisting that funding for his fabled U.S.-Mexico border wall be included in any bipartisan agreement. However, Democrats are steadfast in their opposition to adding any funding to the budget for Trump’s wall.
In his Tuesday tweet, Trump insisted that Democrats are “just interested in politics” and that Republicans “are about RESULTS.” He also proclaimed that “DACA activists and Hispanics will go hard against Dems” and “will start ‘falling in love’ with Republicans and their President!”
Democrats are doing nothing for DACA – just interested in politics. DACA activists and Hispanics will go hard against Dems, will start “falling in love” with Republicans and their President! We are about RESULTS.

Under Pres. Obama’s DACA program nearly 800,000 undocumented young immigrants were protected from deportation. And despite Trump’s promise that he was “going to show great heart” when dealing with immigrants, his actions continue to speak volumes. Trump’s insistence on holding the future and security of over 800,000 young people hostage so that he can fulfill his insanely unrealistic campaign promise to his rabid xenophobic supporters, should tell “DACA activists and Hispanics” everything they need to know about this president.
