Donald Trump is having a hard time getting along with athletes lately. Building upon the very tense relationship between the president and prominent NFL players, Trump now has another top athlete criticizing him – Olympic skiing star Lindsey Vonn.
Vonn did an interview with CNN earlier today, and she stunned everyone when she made her feelings about Trump very clear. Without mincing her words, Vonn stated that she was excited to represent the Untied States in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea – however, she would NOT be representing the president. In fact, she wants nothing to do with Trump! Vonn, who is looking to get her second Olympic gold medal in 2018, told CNN:
“Well I hope to represent the people of the United States, not the president.”
Vonn also stated that if she were invited to the White House after the Olympics, she would “absolutely not” attend. She said:
“I want to represent our country well. I don’t think that there are a lot of people currently in our government that do that.”
You can watch this brutal interview below, which will surely have Trump in a Twitter fit soon:
Earlier today, the United States wasn’t certain about its stance on the 2018 Olympics. Recently, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley stated that it was an “open question” on whether or not the United States would be competing in South Korea due to the rising tension with North Korea.
Earlier today, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders weighed in on it and stated that there was “no official decision” about it yet. But as usual in the Trump administration, Huckabee Sanders had to take that back and announce that the United States WOULD be sending its athletes to the Winter Olympics. Looks like Vonn will have more opportunities to diss Trump in the very near future.
