There are talks about the Robert Mueller investigation homing in on Donald Trump, especially since the probe is examining alleged bank accounts that Trump has offshored in Germany. A recent revelation has also exposed that Mueller may be focusing on Vice President Mike Pence next.
Mike Pence willfully lied to protect the self-interest of the Trump administration, as well as to protect Michael Flynn from allegations of Russian collusion. Vice President Pence may be tapped for an interview by Mueller’s special counsel. He had oversight on Trump’s transition team and was aware of Flynn’s contact with Russian Ambassador to the U.S Sergey Kislyak about sanctions.
What Is This Investigation About?
The special council spearheaded by FBI Director Robert Mueller was made to explore any links or attempts of collusion between the Russian government and President Trump.
The ramifications of the investigation are slowly homing in on the Trump administration, with campaign chairman Paul Manafort and partner Rick Gates first being investigated on October 30, 2017, followed by former adviser George Papadopoulos pleading guilty to lying to the FBI agents about Russian contact while campaigning for Trump during the 2016 elections. On December 1st, Flynn pleads guilty to making “false and fraudulent statements” to the FBI and is currently fully cooperating with Mueller.
Mike Pence’s Representatives Respond
According to the Washington Examiner, a spokesperson for Pence said that he is not preparing for no such interview with the Mueller team. His secretary Alyssa Farah responds:
“Nothing could be further from the truth. The vice president is focused on passing the largest tax cut in American history.”
The investigation is ongoing. Will Mueller force Pence to resign as the vice president? Who’s next to be crushed by Mueller?
