Trump Goes Off The Deep End; Gives Ridiculous Excuse For Flynn’s Crimes

Donald Trump, Politics

Donald Trump has tried to ignore the news about former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s guilty plea. His lack of a response and choosing to focus on tax reform show that the president is attempting to shift the news.

But redirection is nothing new for this administration.

Asked about the Flynn guilty plea Trump said: “What has been shown is no collusion. No collusion. There’s been absolutely, absolutely no collusion, so we’re very happy. And frankly, last night was one of the big nights… We’ll see what happens. Thank you very much.”

It seems in Trump’s view, the situation is somewhat different from the reality. His own son-in-law Jared Kushner has been implicated for collusion with senior Russian sources after a meeting in the lead-up to Trump’s inauguration. There is now also the question of his former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn pleading guilty to lying to the FBI.

Trump has been in a buoyant mood due to the passing of Republican tax reforms. The controversial reforms were pushed through overnight and many senior Democrats have complained at the lack of time available to view the bill. There had been requests for the process to be delayed until Monday in order for the appropriate consideration to be given, but every Republican, including those who demanded such provisions during the passage of Democratic-led bills, voted no on those amendments.

The president’s legacy looks to be in the balance. On one hand, he has been able to finally pass some legislation, but on the other he looks doomed. The special investigation into the Trump administration and its links with senior Russian officials threatens to derail the presidency. As well as Michael Flynn’s testimony, there is also the question of Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ attempt to circumvent throwing his boss under the bus. Sessions used privacy as a way out of answering tough questions on Trump and looks like he will be yet another fall guy for Trump. Trump himself though is the main target and Special Counsel Mueller looks to be zeroing in on his man.
