President Donald Trump has caused so much anxiety in the world that Canada’s own Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, is so concerned about the rise of Trump and the craziness that seems to follow him everywhere, that he’s gone ahead and done something unprecedented: the liberal leader of our neighbor has decided to set up a ‘war room’ to monitor the bombastic billionaire turned president of the United States. Here’s what the Hill Times reported:
“The PMO’s unprecedented new Canada-U.S. relations ‘war room’ led by Brian Clow is being lauded by observers as a smart move, created to help coordinate the Trudeau government’s quick response and strategy to U.S. President Donald Trump’s unpredictable new administration. ‘There’s not been a unit like this set up within the PMO to the best of my knowledge,’ said Greg MacEachern, a senior vice-president at Environics Communications and former Liberal staffer. ‘Obviously, the prime minister wants to be keeping a very close eye on this. … It’s an unprecedented situation in the U.S. we’re watching.’”
Here’s what Warren Kinsella, a former Liberal staffer, said about the move:
“You get stuff breaking with this guy [Trump] all the time. He’s a monkey with a machine gun. You need people who are tracking what’s taking place in the United States now and responding.”
Trudeau has been sending messages to Trump, especially in the wake of the president’s unconstitutional Muslim ban. The young Canadian prime minister wrote:
“To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada.”
Trudeau’s approach, in what essentially amounts to the exact opposite of Trump’s platform, has the prime minister and his administration concerned about Trump’s unpredictability and policies which have the potential to strain relations between the two historic allies.
Trump has already alienated Mexico with his stupid wall and he got in a fight with the Australian leader during the short time he’s been in office. Now, you can bet that he’ll be furious with Trudeau’s move. We’ll keep you posted on his response.
