Many Republicans represent special interest groups, with the legislation that they support being mandated mainly by those who line their pockets. One of those is Republican mega-donor, Sheldon Adelson. Adelson stated he has no plans to help Steve Bannon to eject several GOP politicians throughout 2018. This comes after Roy Moore, Bannon’s choice for Alabama’s Senate, was accused of several cases of sexual misconduct.
Andy Abboud is a spokesperson for the casino owner, noting that “the Adelsons will not be supporting Steve Bannon’s efforts.” Instead, Adelson will be supporting Mitch McConnell. For anyone to infer anything otherwise is wrong,” Abboud added.
Who Is Sheldon Adelson?
Sheldon Adelson is a casino mogul, who is worth more than $37 billion. He used $100 million of that net worth to try to defeat Barack Obama in 2012 – and failed. This past election cycle was known as the “Adelson primary,” with Republicans running in the primaries, trying to attract the attention of the mega-rich like Adelson. Interestingly enough, Adelson is a social liberal who is pro-choice. Most of his net worth stems from several casinos in China, with the casinos making Adelson one of the wealthiest men in the world.
Too bad Bannon is not getting a slice of that money. Bannon actually met with several wealthy GOP donors last month to secure funding to pit his candidate against other Republicans in the midterm elections. But Adelson is distancing himself from Bannon after the fifth woman accused Moore of sexual assault.
Where is Bannon going to get his money? More importantly, when is big money being removed from American politics?
