President Trump president of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, shared a rather strange moment on Sunday during a dinner at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit.
Duterte, accompanied by singer Pilita Corrales, got on stage and began to croon the pop song “Ikaw” (You), a Pilipino love song that filling the room with lyrics such as “You are the light in my world, a half of this heart of mine.”
As he wrapped up his performance, Duterte told the crowd, “Ladies and gentlemen, I sang uninvited, upon the orders of the commander-in-chief of the United States,” Reuters reports.
In the Philipines, Duterte is known as the ‘Trump of the East.’ It’s very rare for Duterte to show any type of emotion— he’s quick to insult people, and since taking office last year, more than 3,900 Filipinos have been killed in his war on drug dealers and users. Trump, who has been urged to confront Duterte on human rights, oddly praised the Philippine leader back in May for doing an “unbelievable job on the drug problem.”
Yeah, an unbelievable job of killing thousands of people in your own country.
Nonetheless, it’s unclear why Trump would ask Duterte to sing, but the two Hitler-like failed leaders seem to be getting along. Quite fitting, isn’t it?
