Billionaire Mark Cuban has disclosed that he’s “seriously considering” running for president in 2020. The Shark Tank star and serial entrepreneur has been a public opponent of President Trump’s and has taken to Twitter on several occasions to vent about the controversial president.
Cuban has stated he will probably run as a Republican candidate in direct opposition to Trump. When pressed on why he would choose to run for the GOP he replied
“I think there’s a place for somebody who is socially a centrist, but I’m very fiscally conservative,”
He backed Hillary Clinton in 2016, but now sees himself as more of a Republican candidate. He has toyed with the idea of running for president previously and now seems to insinuate that it is the perfect time to run. He certainly has a big profile and with many in the party happy to turn against the president, it seems that he would have more than a fair chance.
It’s easy to draw parallels between him and Trump but politically the two men couldn’t be further apart. Cuban is a self proclaimed “centrist” whereas Trump has taken the GOP on a hard-right turn since taking office. Both men are stars of reality television series. Cuban is a star of the show “Shark Tank” which gives entrepreneurs the chance to sell their ideas to a “shark”. Whereas Trump is known for his role on “The Apprentice” which pits contestants against each other for the chance to work with him as the final “prize”.
Unfortunately, because Trump won, it seems like the presidency has turned into a popularity contest that attracts the attention of those with a public profile. The White House is now the setting of a bad reality show.
