President Donald Trump totally alienated his racist base supporters after striking a tentative deal with Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer over a dinner meeting. The deal announced last night involved Trump’s policies regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and working on a deal on border security, but excluding the ever contentious border wall that Trump’s base is set on having.
Before the dinner meeting, Trump had a sit down meeting with Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), the only black senator on Capitol Hill. The subject of that meeting was Trump’s stance and offensive comments following the Charlottesville incident when Trump said that both sides were to blame for the unrest. Scott gave Trump a lesson in race relations:

The lesson didn’t stick, as Trump reiterated his offensive stance today, saying there were “some pretty bad dudes on the other side also.” According to The Hill, during statements made to the White House press pool on Air Force One while returning to Washington from visiting Florida, Trump said:
We had a great talk yesterday. I think especially in light of the advent of antifa, if you look at what’s going on there. You have some pretty bad dudes on the other side also and essentially that’s what I said.
Now because of what’s happened since then with antifa. When you look at really what’s happened since Charlottesville, a lot of people are saying and people have actually written, ‘Gee, Trump may have a point.’ I said there’s some very bad people on the other side also.
When asked for comment on the re-statement of the “many sides” and “both sides” rhetoric, Senator Scott’s office responded:
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and to expect the President’s rhetoric to change based on one 30 minutes conversation is unrealistic. Antifa is bad and should be condemned, yes, but white supremacists have been killing and tormenting black Americans for centuries. There is no realistic comparison. Period.
Just when regular people start thinking that there might be some hope for Trump, he has to have a relapse and go and ruin it again. This past week we have seen him treating the democrats with some respect and even attempting to at least work with them on some things. Because of his almost human behavior, his rabid base was touched off and he apparently felt the need to appease them. Will he ever realize that the crazies that comprise his base are the minority? Not holding my breath.
