Trump Has A George W. Bush Moment Reminding The World Of Hurricane Katrina

Media, News, Politics

Hurricane Harvey highlighted a very nonchalant Donald Trump Friday evening. Reminding us of how George W. Bush handled the horrific and devastating Hurricane Katrina back in 2005.

Just before the Harvey made landfall, Trump tweeted out to the Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Brock Long, that he was “doing a great job”. But in that same tweet, he also sent a warning message that the world is watching.

As reported by Bloomberg the premature praise brings us back to Bush’s premature “Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job” praise of his in-over-his-head FEMA director presaged the bungling in 2005 that helped turn Hurricane Katrina into a human catastrophe. It became a national punch line and “Brownie” — Michael Brown — was out of a job within weeks.

Before the storm hit, Republican Senator, Chuck Grassley, warned Trump about making the same mistakes Bush did with Katrina. To which Trump tweeted back,

“So far, so good?” Hmm, another premature comment made long before Trump knew the damage of Harvey. ABC news has reported that Harvey is the fiercest hurricane to hit the U.S. in more than a decade came ashore late Friday about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northeast of Corpus Christi as a mammoth Category 4 storm with 130 mph (209 kph) winds. Rainfall that will continue for days could dump more than 40 inches of water and inundate many communities, including dangerously flood-prone Houston, the nation’s fourth-largest city.
